 Four  Rockford  men were charged Thursday in what  police  billed as the  first night of Violent Crime Reduction Patrols , an effort to combat the surge in  crime  that has plagued the city over the past two months. DNA evidence from a discarded cigarette has led Florida police to arrest a man on suspicion of murdering a woman 35 years ago. Daniel Wells, 57, was arrested and charged in Pensacola earlier this week for the murder of Tonya McKinley. Ms McKinley was found strangled and sexually assaulted on New Year’s Day in 1985, leaving behind a baby son.

Thomas Point is charged with attempted first degree murder.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Wilmington Police arrested Thomas Point, 21, Saturday night in connection to the shooting of Trev’yon Marshall, 19, on March 17. Point is being held under a $3.5 million dollar bond and is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm within city limits. Marshall was initially taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A Geelong woman has been charged with murdering

A Geelong woman has been charged with murdering her husband after he died from severe burns. Police were called to the home at Boundary Road, Whittington, about 8.30pm on Saturday, where they found 36-year-old Daniel Surtees with "serious burns". It is suspected a fire allegedly lit by Mr Surtees' wife Angela O'Brien began on an armchair in the premises that remains charred. Neighbours told 9News they also heard what they claim was an argument coming from the home prior to emergency services being called.

Kin of deceased protest high murder rate

Family members of murdered or missing Mexicans have marched for four days to the capital to take their message to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who refused to receive them.
